Vorige week vroeg ik me af of de bende van "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" ooit kan veranderen, en deze week gaf de serie ons een definitief antwoord. In nog een dubbele aflevering van afleveringen op FXX en FX op Hulu, bracht de "Sunny"-bende aflevering 3, "The Gang Buys a Roller Rink" en aflevering 4, "The Gang Replaces Dee with a Monkey" uit. De eerste aflevering van deze week gaat terug in de tijd naar de jaren negentig, toen Mac (Rob McElhenney) en Charlie (Charlie Day) op de universiteit werkten op een plaatselijke rolschaatsbaan en Dennis (Glenn Howerton) en Dee (Kaitlin Olson) allebei leken hebben een mooie toekomst voor zich. De tweede regelt de aanstaande reis van de bende naar Ierland, waarnaar dit seizoen veel wordt verwezen in de marketing. 
Beide afleveringen zijn gebaseerd op de langlopende geschiedenis van de serie en terugkerende grappen, terwijl "The Gang Buys a Roller Rink" feitelijk nieuw inzicht biedt in de oorsprong van de bende zoals we die kennen. Het zijn brute aanklachten tegen het gedrag van de bende, terwijl ze ook uitleggen waarom ze zulke monsterlijke individuen zijn geworden. Een deel van het geniale van de serie is de manier waarop het deze totale afvalvuren van mensen verandert in personages waar we om geven en die we van week tot week willen bekijken. De beide afleveringen van deze week zijn sterkere shots dan een vat apenbier, maar ik heb een paar verfrissende 'chaser'-afleveringen uit de serie-catalogus gekozen om deze slechteriken te helpen een beetje soepeler te worden.
